After having comfort access in my last 4 BMW's I could not imagine not having it now to the point its a deal breaker for me if a car had everything else i wanted but didn't have CA. Reaching into your pocket to unlock/lock your car is a thing of the past. Not sure how your Acura system works but the BMW one is seamless and very very good. I simply walk up to the X5 and just pull the handle to open the door. There is no delay whatsoever.
The HK system is a no brainer for $875. You get more speakers and its more than enough for me who likes music and has always tinkered with stereo systems in the past during my younger years. Everything is so integrated now so that going aftermarket isn't as easy as before. If you plan on dumping thousands into aftermarket amps, speakers, subs etc....you might want to consider the B&O option.

+1 on the HK upgrade. That said, I haven't heard the B&O...not sure how it can be worth the money over the HK?

+1 on HUD - After having it I would never want a car without it. Same for comfort access - it just works so seamless, even with gloves on in winter. I can't imagine not having it

My favorite quote in this thread as i totally agree. One day we'll look back and remember those funny things called "keys" which we would use to lock and unlock things.

So, I'm a technology nut, and tend to go a little crazy with the options sheet. That said:
1. Get the HUD. It's worth every penny. We even ordered our Mini Cooper S with it (!). 2. If you don't use CA now you won't on your new X5. There is no slot either way, you're paying to not press "lock" and "unlock" on a remote. 3. All BMW stereos suck, some just a little less than others. I have the B&O on my X6M and it still sucks (IMHO). If, like me, you just listen to the news anyway it doesn't make a big difference 4. The footwave thing doesn't work on my X6M, and it has the feature. Also not worth CA. 5. On the last gen (E70/E71) I'd have pushed for soft close doors. The new F15/F16 doesn't need them, as the doors are so light. 6. Get comfort seats. Those too are worth every penny. Either way - you'll love your new car! |

Like you, I had keyless entry in my past cars, a Mercedes CLK and a Infiniti G35. In the CLK, I always pulled the key out of my pocket to unlock the doors and even inserted the key to start the car, even though there was push button start. It was my first car with these modern features, so it was all new to me.
In the G35, I started to use the feature on cold winter days when I put my key in my pants or inner-jacket pockets. Instead of digging for the key it was easier just to reach toward the door handle to lock and unlock the doors. I eventually realized that everytime I entered the car, I was going to reach for the door handle anyway, why pull out the key fob? For $1000, if you have the budget for it, get it. I opted for HUD in my X5 Build. I didn't have the option in my 535, so I would say it's an option I could live without, but I ticked off the drivers assistance box also. 1. Navigation was displayed on the instrument cluster in my 535. I was essentially looking at the top of my steering wheel for Navigation, or the navigation screen. Both ways, my eyes were away from the road. If you don't use navigation, most likely ue to the crappy route chocices, this might not be important for you. 2. Speedometer displayed. If you drive the speed limit at all times, without fail, you might not need HUD. I also chose Harmon Kardon. I'm not an audiophile, but even if the HK speakers aren't better than the standard BMW ones, there are more of them. The harmon kardon/ bose set ups in my past cars were great. If I had to pick one of the 3 options, HK would be the one. |

+1 on HUD - I'll never get another car without it. I see it as a safety thing - my eyes do not have to leave the road and refocus to search for the information I want on an internal display. Saves a second or two each time I'm checking something simple but saves even more time when looking at navigation information. The only 'downside' of the HUD is finding good sunglasses as polarized ones cancel out the display and make it disappear.

I mentioned to the dealer that there is an issue with seeing the HUD while wearing polarized lenses and she said that's completely false. Apparently there is an iDrive setting that allows it to be visible with polarized lenses.
Can anybody confirm? |

No, thats just not possible. The solution is to get sunglasses that are not polarized....dont think that can be coded

Some sales people will say anything to make a sell.. keep that in mind
With that said.. I can barely see the HUD with my polarized sunglasses on but I have to look for it. |

Yeah... that's what I figured. I may love my Ray Bans more than the HUD... but would it be worth it to buy for nighttime driving only?

I was one of those people who thought HUD would just be a novelty item and it would wear off after the cool factor has gone away. It is actually useful and I enjoy having it in my X5. Is it a must have?? Not really but it is nice to have and still "cool" feature. The only reason I got it is because it was a bundle option from the Drivers assistance package / plus. If it was a stand alone option I would have not gotten it.
