Change 469s from Silver to Black?
A random comment from GeloCH got me thinking and my wife's eye's rolling upwards when I told her.
He said he's thinking of having the 469s painted black..now I'm also thinking of doing it! I've been recommended a shop that does this by my friend who's 'in the trade' - http://www.platinumwheelrefurb.com Just wondered if other people have done the same, especially if you have the Carbon Black M Sport..pictures would be great. Thanks in advance. |

I say do it. It looks very aggressive yet sleek especially because you have the matching black window trim and roof rails. bond77 did it for his winter setup wheels. Just make sure you have your guy glossify the black (like bond77's) so it's not a matte finish. Matte finishes don't look very good in my honest opinion.

As far as I know, one should be careful when painting rims, because some of the methods of doing this involve a lot of heat, which is not good for the aluminum. So just a heads-up for that and make sure what type of painting will be done.
I have the 469s on my summer wheels, but I don't think they will look good on my Glacier Silver. For black it should be ok though. Last edited by sssmokie; 02-22-2015 at 04:55 PM.. |

It looks good in the picture opasha posted. I'd love to see an example of wjbender 's recommendation as well.

I think its a shame to paint those 469's black as they are gorgeous wheels as is IMO...but that said, to each their own.

Keep them silver IMO. I personally don't like the murdered look. Also, remember that CB is very blue in the sun. May be a very diff look under those conditions.

I agree with Doanstar. If you look at the first picture in Opasha's message you can see that the wheels do not really match the color of the car even in lower light. The contrast would be greater if sunny. You have a great looking car as is. Don't mess with it.

Damn I need some 469's as daily's. Somebody local needs to trade me for my 467's haha
I'd deff go gloss black on them if you can pull off the look with supporting mods.

have the same set but not a fan of painting stock wheels. makes it look pretty aggressive on the blk one but it won't go well with my space gray.

Hi mate, your car looks great from any angle ! Great pics.
I agree with the above, black alloys looks very mean and aggressive! However, I think too much black detail might over do it and then it may make the car harder to sell as it might not have a broad appeal? Other things to do consider: 1. Warranty issues? 2. Insurance ? Post-manufacture mods... 3. Any damage to the alloys would be so obvious ? Tough decision. Tough choices! If you had mineral white paint I wouldn't think twice !! Do you want me to find out who BMW use for post-manufacture alloy wheel mods ?

Gents, many thanks for all your comments. I fully take on board the need to have a contrast between the body colour and wheels, especially as they were, in the UK at least an expensive cost option As Doanster says, in the sun, CB is a very dark blue and with black glossy wheels might be, well wrong! If I had the Sapphire Black I would definitely go for it...as per the M4 Thanks again for your comments. |

quick off topic question. for the f15, is anybody aware of where I can buy pre-cut vinyl to wrap around the window trim? I've got a black f15 with the chrome window trim, and after seeing the photo opasha posted, I really want to black out the window trim!

Beginning to think I should have stuck with that colour...especially in the winter - it doesn't look so dirty! |

I've just changed my summer wheels/tyres over to BMW 20" winter wheels/tyres (which are gloss black). As the car is black and all the rim everyone I know now says it looks better. However, come April I'll have the Summer ones back on for 6 /7 months. They do not show the brake dust as bad, but they are a magnet for hair line scratches (which you can only see at 6" away).
