Active Sound - would you do it?
From the front page news/2-series forum:
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1080888 I've never experienced piped-in/manufactured sound so can't say for sure, but on paper, I'd find a way to turn it off, especially if I owned an actual M-car. I want to hear/feel the real thing. I can only imagine the response I'd get the following morning from my wife if I coded our X5 with the M4 file. So, is anyone gonna try it???? Plenty of debate and responses on that thread, so I don't mean this post to go down that path. If someone does try it, post a vid!!

This has been around for a little while. Basically, engine/exhaust sounds play through the audio system to enhance the ultimate driving experience. This thread is pointing out that just like different iDrive startup screens, one could code their car to play different engine files.

Kind of embarrassing, like putting on a M3 badge on a 318i and drive around town living out the fantasy.
In my opinion the most ridicules mood I have seen on bimmerpost so far

I was talking with my friends about this technology 8 years ago. I love the sound of the exhaust of powerful engines, but this is the future and technology. You can download any sound. It's great, isn't it? Because in the future we will go to electric cars. This technology will be our way out! IMHO

I'd like the exact opposite. I'd like the microphones to receive ambient sound, and have a processor produce canceling sound waves to make an ultra quiet environment, when such an environment is desired.
