What's the right process to coast the car? I thought, in the good conditions, the car is able to "automatically" coast itself under the Active Cruise Control. |

ACC maintains speed, so if you are on a downhill, it will brake. I tap my brakes on top of the hill while on EcoPro and ACC. Cruise deactivates, and EcoPro allows coasting. When my speed is gradually reduced to about my prior cruise setting, I reengage cruise.

It seems I'm still confused with the whole concept. I thought I already engaged the "coasting" during my short trip yesterday. I took the short trip with the mixed local and highway outsides NYC. I was using eco pro, and activated ACC when on the highway. Duration - 2:22h Distance - 87 miles Consumpt - 24.8 mpg Speed - 38.0 mph The distance in Highway is about 50 miles, and I used the Active Cruise Control in the speed range of 55-70 mph from the beginning to the end. Since mine is still in break-in (less than 200 total miles), I bet its MPG can be better. Based on my understanding, the owner manual indicated "Coasting is a component of the ECO PRO..." "Coasting is automatically activated when ECO PRO mode is called via the Driving Dynamics Control." "The function is available in a certain speed range"." "In ECO PRO mode, this function is available in a speed range from approximately 30 MPH/50kmh to 100 MPH/160kmh, if the following conditions are satisfied: 1. Accelerator pedal and brake pedal are not operated. 2. The selector levers is in transmission position D. 3. Engine and transmission are at operating temperature. So isn't this feature is able to combine ACC and ECO PRO together, and the computer can automatically calculate the conditions and factors and make the car coast by itself without we physically touch it!? |

Good point , but I'd say no. The aim of ACC is to maintain speed and reduce as necessary. Coasting increases speed. When in "N" via EcoPro coasting, even in gentle slopes, I have seen my speed go from 60mph to 75mph very quickly.

If I set the ACC as 55 MPH, then accelerated to 70 MPH, and released the pedal, the car speed was slowly going down to 55 and wasn't coasting. If I turned off ACC and stayed in ECO PRO, once I released the pedal in 70 MPH, the coasting mode was engaged almost right away and my instant MPG reading turned to 99+. I guess this makes sense now why this F15 can achieve such high MPG during the "tests". And this car seems to gain more mileages in ECO PRO rather than in the cruise control. Thanks for all the helps here. |

It's a good feeling to see that mpg creep up as you drive on a longer trip. I just completed 1200 miles on my way back from Greenville, SC - Hilton Head, NJ. On the trip from Greenville to Hilton Head (~240 mi) all I could get was about 31 mpg. After I got more miles on the clock the mpg seemed to improve. On the last leg of the trip from California Maryland (about 240 miles), to NJ I was able to easily get 35.6 mpg. From what I observed as the engine gets broken in the mpg improves.

Engine: 30d (US: 35d)
Mode: EcoPro data only Negative / Positive Factors: - usually fully loaded on long trips. Example: 4 adults + 2 kids in the baby-seats (3rd row) + roof box for approx 3000km (1800mi) through France and Spain. - light foot on long trips due to: kids and "vacation spirit" and crazy number of speed-cameras all over EU these days (France the worse...) - I try to use EcoPro only on long stretches. For cold start-off, fast driving, city-cruising I avoid the EcoPro as much as possible... - depending on the country the average long-trip speeds: 100-110km/h (70mph) (F, L, ES, B, NL, etc), and around 150-160km/h (100mph) (DE, PL) Data gathered with EcoPro analyser (iOS) during the first 20.000km (12K miles) of my car. Between May 1, 14 and Feb 1, 15 Average of all 74 trips recorded: US MPG: 33.23 Imperial MPG: 27.67 L/100k: 8.5 the best starting at: US MPG: 45.65 Imperial MPG: 37.94 L/100k: 6.2 the worst (usually on very short few-km trips, cold engine) around: US MPG: 23.54 Imperial MPG: 19.6 L/100k: 12 |

I guess I'm the only sucker.
I'm getting average of 10~12mpg on my 3.5i mostly local driving. 3rd tank so far. Highest I got was about 18~20mpg when I did 70% highway. |

You have higher avg. speed. than the other comps. Also, be mindful my results were affected by net downhill.

Here is a link to an article describing 5 diesel vehicles that routinely exceed the EPA mpg rating. My own experience with my X35d confirms this as well.

You can't compare. You are looking at US MPG. The same car sold in the UK is advertised to achieve 47.9 Imperial (GSQ) mpg, which is US 39.9mpg. No one in this forum has achieved that so far, not with my downhill, not eqseric with a lower avg speed matching my mpg. I could totally understand Baunton 's comment. My guess is the laws are less stringent in the UK and BMW (and other makers), post the maximum achievable, as the disclosed mpg. But you are also right, we are seeing US 31mpg for highway easily beat here. And, as discussed in your article link. image from UK configurator: US Disclosed MPG: Owner impressions, from the survey in my footnote:

Short trip to horse back riding lessons....combined hills, highway, windy, and flat terrain...had it on ECO. Also, have a MaxChip tune installed.

Which of these Maxchips do you have? https://maxchip.de/en/catalog/catego...0038&xtyp=8321 You should do a review of the chip as that is not one that is well known here in the US.
