Way to retrofit F15 back up camera?

So don't tease me about it but I thought it was standard and having just PDC activate is so 2007 lol

Therefore anybody have a or know a way to do it? I know it'll require the camera obviously, power, ground, running wires to dash and reverse, then coding.

And does anybody know if it's prewired as well?

Taran.J , I believe it is not pre-wired. You may need to do the wiring and connect it to either the PDC or BDC module. Have yet to confirm on that.

I don't know of a way to retro fit but think it should be included on all SUVs/vans/trucks now. The NHTSA just passed rules to make them required equipment on 100% of vehicles by May 1st 2018.

It is possible to retrofit OEM camera...I just don't know if there is an official retrofit, but it is possible. You'll spend like 1,000 dollars..

Well shit $500 from the dealer would've been better if I was told that this was in an option

I can't believe you would order the car without back up camera lol, then you are also missing out on the great head up display.

The retrofit from bimmertech is as OEM as it gets and i think they are running a 10% off coupon right now. Retrofit anything will always be pricey compared to factory option, hence why you have to do lots of homework prior to buying the car.

I didn't know I would be stripping my E90 this happened between the time I got pissed at my service advisor and went to my regular sales guy and told him to order me a white X5 with black leather and an M sport package. I'm a sign then test drive kind of guy. Didn't think they had a extra tick for a back up camera when Honda's offering it on every single car in their line up at the start of this year. But like you said should've looked deeper into it

Brilliant technology but not for cars of our caliber. Going to my dealer later today to see how much they'll do it for me, or order me OEM parts so I can do it. Otherwise that retrofit site has my business with the $1k one.

I think Bimmertech will still be cheaper option than dealer install. You are probably looking at the parts + $150~250 of labor depends on your location.

Sucks that back up camera isn't standard at car this price range lol!

Yes I know Bimmertech will be cheaper but its a word to the wise sometimes if its not off by too much pay the stealership. But I'll be installing it myself I've done about 20 CIC E9x's locally in the last three years so its not a hassle for me to run a back up cam in this thing.

Another example on how cheap BMW is with their cars. I made my mistake in ordering a car without extended instrument cluster. Will do a better job in researching before I order my next one (if I order another BMW).

Hi,

Today I bought a 2014 X5 40D wit a lot of goodies for my wife. Right now I'm checking the accessoires list and just found out that a 2014 X5 doesn't have a backup camera standard!?!? Really?

I came across your thread and I'm curious how you solved it? I really want everything OEM and hopefully these cars are pre-wired for a backup camera.

What was your solution?

Thanks

Dennis

Dennis,

I'm in the same boat. Afraid no definitive answer on the F15, but have found a lot of other BMW models have used the bimmertech rear view retrofits. They are pretty expensive though. I created a thread on this just the other day for some additional reading: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1196816

From what I've found, it seems you either go with one of the bimmertech models for OEM integration or you start looking into some of the cheap aftermarket alternatives.

Edit to add that my understanding is they are not prewired

Did some searching on the internet yesterday and came across OEM retrofit package SA3AG. This is a general retrofit nr also used with the X3.

Went to the dealer today and received a quote for two part numbers; 71602289351 and 66539390542. One is the camera and the other one is the needed harness. Cost, not installed 750€. And this is OEM.

Very helpful information in tracking down the parts, thank you. My understanding, though it could be inaccurate, is that in addition to the camera and harness there is also some sort of camera control module that fits in the dash. Did your dealer mention that at all?

No, I'll have to wait till I get the install instructions, but these part numbers include everything, because it's the retrofit kit. In my estimate is mentioned:
- 71602289351 Retrofit "set" rear view camera
- 66539390542 Rear view camera

Just went through the same exercise last weekend, just using the Bimmer Tech OEM set.

Was a fun DIY activity over the 4th of July weekend.

Good luck!

Any tips or idea how to remove the X5's cd and climate area?
