horn honked on its own for a split second

so i parked my x5 in the garage. i get out and i didnt lock the doors. as i was doing something else in the garage and maybe few minutes after getting out of the x5, the x5 horn chirped for a split second. this was the horn and not the alarm/lock siren.
any ideas why?

Extreme horn delay? http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1043766 mine improved after a whole-car firmware update.

I love the unexplained...I can't help you with your particular issue, but I can say my RS4's headlights came on for a split second tonight while I was working in the garage (4 hours after it was last used). If it becomes a trend, I will take her in. If not, it has something to do with automotive deities

i have never pressed the horn yet.
i just checked my x5 again, and i guess i may have locked it, because it was locked. but the horn definetly chirped because i was standing right in front of the x5.

Great, we cannot get our horn to honk when we want to, yet others are getting their horns to work Professor X style. Did you happen to think about the horn around the time it chirped?

yes, i have the chirp enabled. but the actual horn went off. i was literally in front of the x5 when it went off, and i hadnt touched the x5 or my key for at least a few minutes after getting out of vehicle.

I do find that the F15 makes several different noises after you shut off the engine but haven't locked the doors yet. All very faint but i hear them. Never noticed it in any of my prior bmws.

Question Random Horn Chirp

I know this is an old thread, but I just purchased my 2015 X5 in March and now I have the same issue as mentioned in this thread. The chirp is not from the alarm system or chirp when you lock or unlock the doors. It only occurs when the car is parked and off (all instruments and interior lights off and timed out). It will give a brief soft chirp about every 15-25 seconds. Sometimes it will go on for hours, sometimes it quits after 1 hour or so. I ruled out the steering wheel switch as it is a brief chirp and the steering wheel is not moving. The only other switch in the circuit that I can see in ISTA+ is in the A258 Body Domain Controller. I verified that the sound is coming from the left and right horns. Scanner does not show any diagnostic codes.

I'm out of ideas..... Suggestions?

I got rid of that x5, so I never did find out the cause of the honk.

Update:

I had to pull the fuse for the horn to get it to quit. Still troubleshooting the circuit, no solution yet.

My car has done this twice in my presence. It happened a few weeks ago when I was installing my charge pipe. Hood was open, I was working on something at my workbench, and a quick honk from the horn. I wasn't really surprised or caught off guard, because I have read this thread before.

Yesterday, I was having my downpipe installed and it happened again, hood open this time as well, up on the lift. Only this time there were 3 others around to hear it as well. Two of them told me that I'm not the first X5 they've seen it happen to. Said I shouldn't worry about it.
