2015 BMW X6 M50d vs 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé 450 AMG Sport [Photo Comparo]

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
This is basically an ML Coupé.

However Merc's whole SUV range is being renamed into GL + final letter indicating the lineup hierarchy:
GLA
GLC (next GLK)
GLE (next ML)
GLS (next GL)
...

This vehicle is the coupé derivative of the ML = GLE, which is the E-Class level SUV (just like the X5 is the 5 Series level SUV). And since Mercedes does not anymore distinctly name its coupé derivatives (e.g. CL became S Coupé), this is simply called GLE Coupé (unlike X6 which is not called X5 Coupé).

So it's definitely an X6 competitor Note the huge 22" wheels which do not seem evidently bigger than the X6's 20"!

At least they should not have made it uglier. Copying should be relatively easy. MB engineers, You had one job...

Copying... are you guys serious? The X6 opened a new niche segment which has proven a successful gamble, Mercedes only naturally followed up the general idea (= SUV with coupé-like raking roofline) while still giving it a pretty different interpretation as we can see on the profile. Audi will also put a competitor on the market.
Do you also complain about BMW following up the 4 door coupé trend initiated by the CLS?

It is quite ridiculous to blame the 3 German premium manufacturers for copying each other nowadays as they have been doing this for some time already, as well in terms of market segment coverage as in range nomenclature, design gimmicks, on-board technology, customization... Every manufacturer seeking to appropriate whatever makes the others special: BMW pushing forward FWD and xDrive technology, Audi making the next A8 RWD with the help of Porsche, BMW opening the M Performance line and Mercedes the AMG Sport line as an answer to the Audi S line, etc. etc...

Good post.

RX owners should come here and call the X5 a copy. LOL.

Shouldn't this MB be compared with an X4?
I might be wrong...but I think it is within that size category?!

and I reaalllyyy don't get MB's new generation display design?!!
Does this collapse, fold or go inside or something? cause it looks more like the design team forgot to consider the entire navigation/display portion of the car and it was a "patched" or "glued" onto the dash at the last minute...

Both have good looking exteriors and one follows the other in terms of exterior design.

Like a home owner, you spend most of the time inside looking out, not outside looking in. Now sit yourself inside the GLE and keep looking. Soon you will be overwhelmed by the size and placement of those vents on both sides of the display. They are prominent, ugly, large and out of place.

And from this point on, every time you sit inside one or look at the interior pictures, your eyes will keep drifting towards those vents.

What's going on with MB lately with their rear end design?
This and new S coupe has some Buick benchmarking rear ends and it's more disgusting then 5GT.

Interesting comparison. They are both nice in their own way, but the Mercedes interior lags far behind STILL. This is a first for me seeing a 22" wheel option from any OEM manufacturer as standard by Mercedes.

@jlstyle, I agree with you 100%. I don't like the lower emblem placement at all on the new S coupe nor on the GLE.

How is BMW any different?

The ipad style screens in BMW, MB, etc., allow for larger screens without adding bulk to the dash.

The X6 looks like it could eat the Merc for breakfast! Way more polished and aggressive!

I just saw the X6 in person and unfortunately things did not turn out as I had hoped. The X6 appeared to me like a raised 5 GT. It made me like the X5 more. In real life the X6 does not look as good as the pictures.
